Vacation Always Means Lots of Eating

As usual, going on vacation meant that I pretty much overrate every single meal.  Here are some culinary highlights on my Maui trip.

Ululani’s Shave Ice

No joke, Ululan’s was my first stop in Maui.  First stop.  As in, we got off the plane, got our rental car, and came here.  And the shave ice definitely was worth it.  During the 5-day trip, we visited various locations of Ululani’s 4 times; my personal favorite flavor combination:  POG (passion orange and guava).

Mama’s Fish House

This restaurant in Paia is a Maui favorite; the food is great and the view is even better.

Ka’ana Kitchen (Andaz Wailea)

We stayed at the Andaz resort in Wailea.  The hotel has two restaurants on the property:  Ka’ana Kitchen and Morimoto.  We did not get a chance to try out Morimoto, but did have breakfast at Ka’ana twice (once for the buffet and once a la carte), and dinner once.

While the food is excellent overall (although pricey), my favorite dish was the dessert at dinner - Coconut Sundae (with chocolate sauce and macadamia nuts), apparently a favorite among patrons.  I must say, while I don’t usually have a sweet tooth, this dish was a hit with me as well.

Stumbling Upon Some Dolphins

On the sailboat from Maui to Lana’i, we saw pods of dolphins!  These creatures jumped around and spun above the water… an extremely pleasant surprise.

Finally Made it to Hawaii

Last November, I was ready to head to Maui with a good friend to spend some quality R&R time.. alas, my little mini Aussie buddy became ill, and I canceled my trip to take care of him.  Seven months later, I re-planned the vacation and finally made it to the island!

With only four full days on vacation and not much planning, we arrived only knowing that we 1) had to go get shave ice as often as possible, 2) deserve to relax after much stress in our lives, and 3) will play everything a lot by ear.  Usually a planner, this was quite unusual for me… Nonetheless, everything turned out well and so much fun.
